The Last Melon [ice age lol]
This song definitely wasn’t created to obtain the most streams or likes, but it was created to close a concept to an album. To close the door on eras that were intertwined and linked either by pain or joy. Closing of stories that were carried on with characters that would come at go throughout a decade. But now that she has steady people in her life, I think she realizes that she can close these eras, and move on to a whole new one.
Lyrical Analysis
Now and then she rereads the manuscript
Of the entire torrid affair
They compared their licenses
He said, “I’m not a donor but
I’d give you my heart if you needed it”
She rolled her eyes and said
“You’re a professional”
He said, “No, just a good samaritan”
He said that if the sex was half as good as the conversation was
Soon they’d be pushin’ strollers
But soon it was over
Now I’m not going to speculate on who these are about, but I am sure each of these paragraphs are someone different, and are representative of a deep heart break. The first one being a smooth talker – someone who came off as a good person, but wasn’t. She should have trusted her gut in the first place and when her girlhood was taken from her, it was over.
In the age of him, she wished she was thirty
And made coffee every morning in a French press
Afterwards she only ate kids’ cereal
And couldn’t sleep unless it was in her mother’s bed
Then she dated boys who were her own age
With dart boards on the backs of their doors
She thought about how he said since she was so wise beyond her years
Everything had been above board
She wasn’t sure
Then she dated someone else, yet again older. She could see herself older, with kids, and wished she was living that life. She felt more mature, and was almost wishing she was older because maybe that’s what he wanted. But the breakup ruined her, and she resorted to feeling like a kid again. She went back to dating boys that were around her own age and it just didn’t feel right to her. Too immature? Maybe they just didn’t know who they were.
And the years passed
Like scenes of a show
The Professor said to write what you know
Lookin’ backwards
Might be the only way to move forward
This part of the verse is definitely about her music. Writing through pain is therapy. Writing about experiences to see where you can go – figuring out life through a rear view lens to get over it to see the future clearer.
Then the actors
Were hitting their marks
And the slow dance
Was alight with the sparks
The people in her life might have been deceiving as they planned, the fake love, the let downs, the good stuff, the ups and downs… the performative people in and out of her life – in and out – hitting their marks and fooling her [friends included]
And the tears fell
In synchronicity with the score
And at last
She knew what the agony had been for
but alas, I read this one as happiness. The tears fell [eras tour??] in synchronicity with the score – perhaps.. a specific football score? She knew what all of this dragged out up and down bull shit was for. She wouldn’t be where is now without all that has happened to her, non-romantic and romantic. Music involved included. AND SHE HAS TRUE FRIENDS NOW!! Like REAL musical besties – and god thats so fun to see.
The only thing that’s left is the manuscript
One last souvenir from my trip to your shores
Now and then I reread the manuscript
But the story isn’t mine anymore
It makes sense she would end the last verse acknowledging her last relationship. Your shores. This long story, the story that lives on was left there. That was the last era… midnights, left there. She revisits that work and those feelings – but she’s leaving everything behind and after this last TTPD album. She is starting a brand new chapter with brand new eras. No more looking back to the past.
On a personal level I am VERY excited to see what this means for music. Is it going to be entirely different?? Is it going to be completely new with no references to anything she’s ever done? I would love that – because although I like when she references things, sometimes as a writer – it actually feels like a lack of creativity. So I am very much looking forward to what is coming next for her. I know she is closing out her versions of Rep and Debut, and I hope she drops those soon- because i know she is working on a new album and I am so intrigued on the sound of it.
Visual Representation

To me, this song isn’t about not owning the story of your past any more, but more so not letting it define you. Acknowledging you understand what all of the struggles were for, because without them, you wouldn’t know what or where you would be today. This image is myself now, merged with two landscapes from my past : an image from my childhood home, and my last house I lived in. Both had elements of personal found self and struggle, as we see in every stage of our life. This year for me is a year of fine-art and figuring out what 2026 entails for me as an artist, educator, and photographer. Will I need to go full time on my business again, will I pursue further education, or will I be full time teaching at the same or different institution? I dont know, and I hate not knowing. Everything feels like a waiting game, but in the end – I know what this agony will be for.
